CHASE ELECTRIC
Residential Electrical Services in Southern Maine
Chase Electric is a licensed residential electrical contractor based in Windham, Maine. We handle the everyday electrical work that keeps Southern Maine homes safe and functional: outlets, switches, ceiling fans, code corrections, remodels, rewiring, and the surprises you find when you start opening up walls in a hundred-year-old farmhouse. Owner-operated by a master electrician, so the person quoting your job is the person doing your job.
Full electrical rough-in for kitchen remodels, basement finishes, additions, and detached garages or workshops. We work with your general contractor or directly with you, plan the circuit layout for your appliances and fixtures, run new wire, install panels and outlets and switches, and coordinate inspections at every code milestone. For owner-builders we can also help with the load calculations
Home Rewiring
Older Maine homes often have a mix of wiring vintages: some knob-and-tube from the 1920s, some cloth-insulated wiring from the 1940s, some 1960s aluminum, and modern copper Romex on top. We assess what is still in use, what is safe to leave, and what needs to be replaced. A full home rewire is a significant project but it is the right call for homes that are getting an insurance flag, a real estate inspection issue, or a major remodel. Partial rewires (rewiring just the bedrooms, or just the kitchen) are also common and a great way to spread the work over time.
Remodels and Additions
If your home was built before 1950, there is a good chance you still have knob and tube wiring somewhere in the walls. Insurance companies are increasingly aggressive about active knob and tube, and some carriers will not write a policy at all if any is still in use. We trace what is live, document a remediation plan for your insurance company if needed, and rewire the affected circuits to modern Romex with proper grounding.
Smaller Jobs We Do

Knob and Tube Rewiring
On any job that requires one, we pull it. Some small jobs (replacing a fixture, swapping a switch) do not require a permit in Maine. Anything involving a new circuit, a panel change, or new wiring inside walls does. We handle the permit application, the electrical inspection scheduling, and any rework if the inspector flags something.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle small jobs, or only big projects?
1
Both. A new outlet or a ceiling fan install is just as worth doing as a panel upgrade. We schedule smaller jobs around our larger projects, but we do them, and we charge fairly for them.
How much does home rewiring cost?
2
A full rewire of a typical 1,500 to 2,500 square foot Southern Maine home runs $12,000 to $25,000, depending on accessibility, the condition of the existing wiring, how much demo and patching is involved, and whether the panel needs to be upgraded at the same time. Partial rewires (just bedrooms, or just the kitchen) run $3,000 to $8,000. We give a fixed quote after walking the house.
Are you licensed and insured?
3
Yes. Zack Chase is a licensed master electrician in the State of Maine, and Chase Electric carries full general liability insurance. License and insurance documentation is available on request. Maine Master License #MS60022489
Can you work with my general contractor?
4
Yes. We do a lot of work as the electrical sub on remodels and additions, and we are comfortable on a job site with framers, plumbers, HVAC, and drywallers. We coordinate inspection timing with your GC so the electrical does not bottleneck the schedule.
